I’ve been contemplating growing my hair long again for quite some time. So recently, when funds were tight, I decided to bite the bullet and just skip the hair cuts. This was my hair last July.

It's hard to tear your eyes away from my companions, but look in the middle. That's me.

I have had my hair short for quite a few years. When I first went short, I was working two jobs and going to school, so it was simply a matter of convenience. Then it was just easier to keep it short. I did grow it back a few years ago, but I never made it back to where I began which was below my shoulders.

The problem with growing my hair, is that I have tons of “body” as hairstylists like to call it. “Wavy” is another term that stylists like to use. The phrase I use is “pain in my ass!” This morning, as usual, my hair was wild when I crawled out of bed, so I soaked it in the bathroom sink, applied a glob of this stuff:

It really is strong hold

I then proceeded to turn my head upside down and blow dry while scrunching thinking it would make really cool waves and look good pulled back into a headband.

WRONG! When I got done (and I didn’t get a picture of this because I was shocked)  I had a fan of hair standing up like a sideways fauxhawk. It was NOT what would go over well in an office setting. If I hadn’t already been running a few minutes late, I probably would have laughed, but I just quickly soaked my hair again and brushed it like a madwoman and managed to get it to lie down enough to be presentable.

Towards the middle of the day, I could feel my hair starting to curl, not a little, but a LOT. A couple of my co-workers gave me those “Oh no it looks great” lines, but I could tell. With my headband with the little bow on it, I resembled a shih tzu after a bad grooming session. Here’s the after work version of my hair:

not great..not at all

Let’s just say that this is not what I was hoping it would look like.

Anyway, the moral of this post is, my hair sucks and I really wish it wouldn’t.

To reward me for not hiding under the bed instead of going to work, when I got home I rented a movie using The Watchbox. I rented Wake starring Jerad Anderson one of my favorite dudes in the whole world. Today it was announced that now you can use Paypal to pay for your rentals on The Watchbox. I had a little left over from a sale I recently made, so I decided to use those funds instead of trying to withdraw them and pay the fee.

I’m still processing this, but I was stunned. It was one of the most powerful movies I’ve seen in a very long time.  The synopsis: “When Bobby Wake, (Jerad Anderson/100 monkeys) a young, overly aggressive pro skateboarder, breaks his neck attempting an insane jump and is paralyzed – he begins to realize that something happened during his near death experience and now has the powers to heal. Father Tom, a disenchanted priest, who aids in Bob’s recovery, sees this as a true miracle and a chance to change the world and regain his faith in God. Yet Bob wants only to get back to skateboarding and winning – until his world begins to crumble and he is forced to choose between the desires of his ego and the calling of his spirit.” (yeah, I just copied and pasted from the website). It was beautiful and the actors really surprised me with their authenticity. The sets and locations were gritty, raw and beautiful. If you have $5 you should absolutely check this out.

Check this out too. My friend Katie has issued a challenge to all fans of 100 Monkeys to share stories of the times they’ve spent with the guys and just how it changed them. Here’s my story, but be sure to go back and read the others..they will absolutely make you cry, laugh and shake your head fondly at the great times and great friends we’ve all experienced because of those 5 great guys.

Love and Smooches,

Mel
